AFG mortgages processed +25% y/y

It pays to take more heed of the Australian Bureau of Statistics housing finance data, but AFG as Australia's largest mortgage broker tends to provide some useful insights with their mortgage finance figures.

From AFG:

"AFG processed over $3.4 billion of mortgages last month - an increase of 25% over July 2012. July is traditionally a quieter month for mortgages than August, and last month's strong figure reflects reports of active property markets over the winter."

This represents AFG's strongest July on record with $3,407 million of mortgages processed.

The increases were largely due to a boom in mortgage applications in NSW (+32%) and WA (+29%).

The figures were dragged back a little by a fall in applications in South Australia. SA was the only state in which applications fell (-4%).
